St Stephen’s Primary in Newham received Outstanding overall and across the assessed areas in October 2023. It is a useful starting point for families considering East Ham primary provision. The inspection evidence covers more than attainment alone, including early years and personal development.

Confirm the school’s exact admissions arrangements and the relationship between nursery and Reception places. Use the Newham school record; there are other St Stephen’s schools in London.
A Poplar primary with retained inspection strength
Mayflower offers a Tower Hamlets comparison alongside the Newham schools in this list. Its December 2022 inspection was an ungraded visit to an Outstanding school, not a new full graded inspection. The report found that the school continued to be Outstanding, which is the specific evidence used here.
Before you decide
Check Tower Hamlets admissions, the Upper North Street location and available places for your child’s year. Ask about language support, classroom routines and transition into secondary education.
A primary-school choice, distinct from the academy
Brampton Primary received Outstanding overall and across the reported areas in December 2023. It adds another East Ham option with strong inspection evidence. The primary school should be considered on its own provision rather than through the reputation of the separately named Brampton Manor secondary academy.
Before you decide
Use the primary school’s current admissions information. Ask about wraparound care, learning support and the ordinary weekly timetable, especially if you are comparing several Newham primaries.
Curwen’s November 2023 inspection awarded Outstanding overall and in each reported area. It is a relevant choice for families centred on Plaistow and the wider Newham school network. The dated report provides a useful starting point for questions about curriculum, early years and how the school supports different pupils.

Check Newham’s allocation rules and the route from your actual home. Ask which support and activities are available to your child’s age group and whether they fit your workday.
This selection is Tollgate Primary on Barclay Road in Plaistow, part of the Boleyn Trust. Its December 2022 inspection awarded Outstanding overall and in the reported areas. The exact identity matters: a school with the same name in Suffolk has a different inspection record and is not included.

Use the Newham admissions record and URN 143881 when checking reports. Ask about early years, learning support and the transition between classes as part of an ordinary school visit.

Read the determined policy for the intended entry year and recent allocation information.
A nursery place, an address nearby or a high entrance-test score does not necessarily guarantee admission. Junior schools covering ages seven to eleven are identified separately from Reception-entry primaries.
Check infant-to-junior transfer rather than assuming it is automatic.

Ask who notices when a child is struggling, how additional learning needs are supported and what a normal week looks like.
Look at work, talk about homework and find out which clubs pupils can actually attend. Repeat the journey at school-run time.
Keep several realistic choices rather than treating any Top 5 as an offer list.
