A girls’ grammar option in Redbridge
Woodford County provides a selective girls’ state-school route. Its November 2022 inspection recorded Good overall, with Outstanding quality of education and sixth-form provision. That distinction is more useful than presenting every academically selective school as uniformly Outstanding.
Before you decide
Read the Redbridge grammar-test and admissions rules together, including residence priorities. Ask how the school balances academic expectations with pastoral support and wider interests.
Ilford County’s January 2026 report records Strong standard across all seven areas. It supplies the boys’ grammar comparison to Woodford County’s girls’ route within Redbridge. The new report gives families evidence on inclusion and wellbeing as well as academic achievement.

Confirm grammar-test registration, eligibility and the council application deadline. Ask about the school’s assessment practices and the support provided when pupils find the academic pace difficult.

Strong academics, with important pastoral questions
Mossbourne’s May 2026 report records Exceptional achievement, curriculum and teaching, and post-16 provision. It also records Expected standard for leadership and for personal development and wellbeing. Inspectors identified concerns about some pupils’ sense of belonging, reintegration after sanctions and relationships with parents. These are material parts of the comparison.
Before you decide
Read the full 2026 report before deciding. Ask for concrete updates on pastoral support, behaviour consequences and complaints handling, as well as the Year 7 admission arrangements.

A secondary school and a distinct sixth-form route
Brampton Manor offers co-educational secondary and sixth-form education in Newham. Its April 2024 visit was an ungraded inspection of an Outstanding school and found that the school continued to be Outstanding. Families should distinguish Year 7 entry from the separate academic requirements for sixth-form admission.
Before you decide
Compare the admissions route for the actual age of entry. A sixth-form reputation does not by itself describe a Year 7 pupil’s daily experience; ask about the lower-school curriculum and pastoral system.
Ungraded inspection: the report found that the school continued to be Outstanding. This was not a new graded judgement.

A Catholic comprehensive comparison
Trinity provides a co-educational Catholic option alongside Redbridge’s grammar schools. Its February 2023 inspection recorded Good across the assessed areas, including sixth-form provision. Faith character and admissions priorities make it a different kind of choice from simply comparing entrance-test scores.
Before you decide
Read the Catholic admissions criteria and supplementary-information requirements. Ask about the relevant school site, daily travel and the transition into the sixth form.

Use the visit to test the fit
Ask who notices when a child is struggling, how additional learning needs are supported and what a normal week looks like.
Look at work, talk about homework and find out which clubs pupils can actually attend. Repeat the journey at school-run time.
Keep several realistic choices rather than treating any Top 5 as an offer list.
