Hampden Gurney offers a Church of England primary route in Westminster. The February 2023 inspection recorded Good overall, with Outstanding behaviour, personal development and early years. Its central location makes it useful to compare with Kensington primaries, but faith-related admissions may be a deciding factor.

A Kensington primary with a strong report
Fox Primary’s October 2023 inspection awarded Outstanding overall and in all reported areas. It is a useful Kensington comparison for families looking at state primary education from age four. The report provides a stronger basis for questions than postcode reputation alone.
Before you decide
Check the current local-authority admissions criteria and realistic allocation distances. Ask how new pupils are supported and how the curriculum develops beyond reading, writing and mathematics.
Thomas Jones received Outstanding across the October 2023 inspection judgements. Its public school page also reports that it was named Sunday Times Primary School of the Year in December 2025. We identify that published award without claiming access to the subscription-only national league table.
Before you decide
Read the entry-year admission policy and test the journey to St Mark’s Road. Ask how the school supports children with different starting points as well as those already attaining highly.

Early-years strength in a central location
Bousfield adds another Kensington and Chelsea option. Its September 2022 inspection recorded Good overall and Outstanding early-years provision. For families choosing a first school, that early-years distinction is worth exploring in person rather than relying on the overall label alone.

Start with a realistic admissions route
Read the determined policy for the intended entry year and recent allocation information.
A nursery place, an address nearby or a high entrance-test score does not necessarily guarantee admission. Junior schools covering ages seven to eleven are identified separately from Reception-entry primaries.
Check infant-to-junior transfer rather than assuming it is automatic.

Use the visit to test the fit
Ask who notices when a child is struggling, how additional learning needs are supported and what a normal week looks like.
Look at work, talk about homework and find out which clubs pupils can actually attend. Repeat the journey at school-run time.
Keep several realistic choices rather than treating any Top 5 as an offer list.
