Highgate is a useful first comparison for families wanting boys and girls educated together at junior age, within a wider school community. The junior stage starts at seven, so this is a different decision from choosing a Reception place. Its public Good Schools Guide profile identifies the junior school separately from the senior school.

Ask about the 7+ assessment, entry-year places and the conditions for moving to senior school. Visit the junior campus itself and test the journey up to Highgate.

UCS Junior Branch offers a boys’ junior-school option in Hampstead. It belongs on a comparison list alongside co-educational Highgate and the nearby girls’ schools because it offers a different peer environment while keeping a connection to a senior institution. The junior branch has its own identity and location.

The junior school provides a girls’ education from age four in the South Hampstead area. That longer primary span is its practical distinction from seven-plus-only options. It is worth comparing with Channing for families looking at continuity into a girls’ senior school rather than a separate prep-school exit at eleven.

Channing’s junior school gives families another girls’ option from Reception, in Highgate rather than Hampstead. The public guide treats it as a distinct junior phase, which helps parents compare the actual age group rather than rely on the reputation of the senior school alone.

The Children’s House broadens this north London shortlist beyond the Hampstead–Highgate cluster. Its public profile covers nursery through primary age and a co-educational intake. It is a useful alternative for families whose everyday life is centred on Islington and who want to compare a primary-focused setting.

What the fees and entry process should tell you
Request the fee schedule for the intended year, including any VAT, meals, trips, transport and compulsory extras.
