WHAT’S ON
Christmas in London
Start with the right kind of festive evening: a public lights switch-on, a separately ticketed light trail or a fairground visit. Checked 2026 announcements put Carnaby’s switch-on on 4 November, Regent Street’s event on 5 November and Covent Garden’s on 12 November; the comparison below separates those dates from unconfirmed times, prices and later operating days.

Put the confirmed seasons in your calendar
Christmas at Kew runs on selected dates from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.
Winter Wonderland advertises 19 November to 3 January, excluding Christmas Day. These are season windows: choose an actual dated entry slot, and do not assume a light-trail ticket includes ordinary daytime garden admission.

YOUR FESTIVE PLANNING DESK
Which Christmas outing fits your date?
Compare five recorded lights and attraction options for the 2026–27 season. A switch-on date, a selected-date trail and a fairground season are different plans—not five interchangeable tickets.
This is a planning shortlist, not a live availability check. Season results still need an actual dated booking. Street lights match only their recorded switch-on day because a season end has not been confirmed. “With children” excludes recorded adult-only dates; it does not certify every remaining option as suitable for your child.
5 recorded planning options shown.
| Outing and area | Recorded dates and admission | Children and group planning | Source and remaining checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carnaby Christmas lightsSoho | Switch-on: 4 November 2026. Exact switch-on time and season end are not announced on the checked page. The public lights event needs no ticket. Food, shopping and optional promotions are separate. | The optional drink promotion has 18+ and ID conditions; those conditions do not make the public lights event adults-only. | Only the switch-on date is confirmed here. A later dated search does not assume the lights are operating every evening. Source checked . |
| Regent Street Christmas lightsWest End | Switch-on event: 5 November 2026, 17:00–21:00. This is the event window, not an exact switch-on instant. The announcement does not state an admission price. Unknown is not the same as free. | No whole-event adults-only restriction is recorded in this comparison; check current crowd, access and programme information for your group. | The season end is not stated. Check the current street programme before relying on a later illuminated evening. Source checked . |
| Covent Garden Christmas lightsCovent Garden | The announcement body confirms the switch-on on 12 November 2026. Exact time and season end are not confirmed. Admission price and booking conditions are not stated on the announcement used here. | Read the current event and access details before choosing this for children; this guide does not infer suitability from the location alone. | The page widget contains an inconsistent year range. This comparison uses the 2026 date in the announcement body, not that range. Source checked . |
| Christmas at KewKew GardensRead the detailed visit guide | Selected dates, 13 November 2026–3 January 2027. The season window does not establish a session on every date. Separate timed-entry event ticket, advertised from £25.50. Daytime garden admission does not include this light trail. | 3 and 9 December 2026 are adult-only evenings. Check the chosen date, each child’s ticket and the booked entrance gate. | A result inside the season window is only a planning candidate: confirm that date, entry time, gate and final price in the official selector. | Hyde Park Winter WonderlandHyde ParkRead the detailed visit guide | 19 November 2026–3 January 2027; closed on 25 December. Opening hours vary by date. Entry and attractions are separate decisions. The advertised £1 November off-peak promotion is conditional, not the cost of a complete visit. | Check the exact rides, shows, age or height rules and accompanying-adult tickets; a whole-site family label does not cover every attraction. | Check the entry slot, chosen attractions, gate and full order total. This comparison does not promise live availability or a blanket daily opening time. Source checked . |

EXPLOREChoose a trail or a fairground first
A timed light trail works well as the fixed part of a quiet evening; a fairground visit involves choosing which activities deserve your budget.
Compare the full outing, including transport, food and paid extras. Make one booking everyone agrees on before adding optional activities that could make the day feel rushed.
Christmas parties and music
For a festive indoor alternative, compare the Christmas concert and party listings in the related booking cards.
A Candlelight concert, a dinner show and a drag brunch are different formats. Open the selected event for its date, age guidance and inclusions.
Check that a performance is scheduled for the date you want, with tickets still available.
Build a flexible lights-and-food route
Regent Street can be a starting idea for a central London walk.
Its official 2026 announcement, checked on 16 October, now lists a switch-on event on 5 November from 17:00 to 21:00; that window is not a separately confirmed exact switch-on instant or a season-ending date. Choose a nearby meal and a short route that you can reduce if weather or crowds make it less enjoyable.
The Christmas preparation checklist
Agree the date, total budget and who is booking.
Confirm access arrangements and cancellation terms before paying. Save entry gates alongside ticket times, and avoid using a generic venue postcode as the only destination.
Recheck the organiser and transport shortly before travelling, particularly for dates close to Christmas and New Year. If the trip includes 25 December, use Christmas Day in London to separate the day’s food, opening and travel checks from the wider festive season.
Christmas markets and paid attractions are different decisions
Decide whether you want to browse, eat or book a particular experience before comparing Christmas markets with light trails.
Winter Wonderland brings food and shopping alongside rides and shows; entry and individual attractions remain separate booking decisions. Set aside food and shopping money after pricing the entry slot and the activities you actually want.
For another London Christmas market, check its own current opening dates and traders rather than assuming the Winter Wonderland season applies to it.
Christmas in London with children: choose the date first
For Christmas at Kew, 3 and 9 December 2026 are adult-only evenings.
The 16 October source check records those restrictions; it does not certify every other date as available. Check each child’s and accompanying adult’s ticket, the entry gate, walking conditions and the journey home.
At Winter Wonderland, individual rides and shows can have their own age or height rules. Carnaby’s optional drink promotion has adult conditions, but those are not a whole-event age limit for the public lights.
Food and shopping: a flexible central London plan
Choose Carnaby and Regent Street as one central area, or make Covent Garden an alternative rather than a compulsory extra stop.
Keep browsing flexible around one nearby meal, and decide in advance which part can be dropped if the group gets cold or tired. A self-planned route works best when you save the meeting point and return journey alongside the lights announcement.
Check the current programme, shop hours and the restaurant’s own menu or booking details before setting out.
Questions, answered
Which Christmas outings does this guide cover?
Christmas at Kew, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and festive concert choices, each with separate booking arrangements. The comparison also records Carnaby, Regent Street and Covent Garden lights switch-ons, separately from the two ticketed attractions.
Does one ticket cover every attraction?
No. Check what entry includes; rides, food and other extras can cost more.
Can I visit Winter Wonderland on Christmas Day?
The organiser lists it as closed on 25 December.
What should I check for Christmas at Kew?
Choose the date, entry time and gate shown on your booking, then plan the journey to that gate.
Is the Christmas season the same as Christmas Day?
No. A festive season window does not confirm that an attraction opens on 25 December. For that date, use Christmas Day in London to plan opening checks, meals and the return journey separately.
Is a starting ticket price the total cost of the outing?
No. A headline or “from” price is not the total cost of the outing. Add your entry slot, selected attractions, food and transport, then check the final order total and what each ticket includes. A conditional promotion does not establish the cost for your whole group or guarantee live availability.
