Confirm the exact tuition fee
International fees vary by university, course, laboratory or clinical content and year of entry. Use the course page and written offer, then check whether fees can rise in later years. “From” prices and domestic fee caps may not apply to an international student.
Price twelve months of living
Model rent, deposit, utilities, food, transport, phone, study materials, clothing and trips home. London housing can dominate the budget. Compare halls and private renting on the same basis, including contract length and bills.
Add one-off arrival costs
Include the visa application, immigration health surcharge, travel, bedding, household basics, local transport and temporary accommodation if the permanent room begins later. A deposit may be due before a scholarship or family transfer arrives.
Plan for currency movement
If income or savings are held in another currency, leave a buffer rather than assuming today’s exchange rate will hold. Understand the university’s instalment dates, payment methods, late-payment policy and refund terms before transferring large sums.
Treat work as support, not the funding plan
Visa conditions can restrict hours and job availability is never guaranteed. Budget from confirmed resources and check current work conditions on GOV.UK. Course workload, commuting and assessment periods also limit realistic earnings.
