Technology careers in London: roles, skills and evidence
“Tech” is not one career. London employers recruit engineers, analysts, designers, product specialists, security professionals and commercial teams with different evidence requirements.

Choose a role family
Compare software engineering, data, cyber security, cloud, product management, UX, quality, technical support and technology sales by daily work—not only salary. Read several real vacancies and mark repeated skills, seniority expectations and domain knowledge.
Build inspectable evidence
A focused portfolio should show the problem, your decisions, your contribution, the result and what you would improve. Engineers need readable code and deployment thinking; designers need research and trade-offs; product candidates need prioritisation and measured outcomes.
Use London’s sector depth
Fintech, media, retail, health, climate, government and professional services all hire technology talent. Domain expertise can distinguish a candidate when generic skills are common. Search company and sector roles as well as broad “tech jobs”.
Read the employment offer fully
Compare base pay, bonus, pension, equity terms, probation, hybrid expectations, on-call work and commute. Sponsorship must be confirmed by the employer and role; a company appearing on a sponsor list does not promise sponsorship for every vacancy.
Run a measured search
Track suitable applications, replies, interviews and recurring gaps each week. Improve the weakest stage rather than sending more identical applications. Use recruiters and communities selectively and verify anyone requesting identity documents or payment.
