Map the ecosystem by sector
Fintech clusters around the City and Canary Wharf; AI and research links are strong around King’s Cross, Bloomsbury and major universities; creative technology crosses Soho, Shoreditch and wider east London. Teams are distributed, so sector matters more than a fashionable postcode.
Start with a market
Define a customer, costly problem, existing alternative and evidence of demand. Incorporation, an accelerator application and a pitch deck cannot substitute for customer discovery. International founders must also separate company formation from immigration permission to work in the UK.
Find credible networks
Use university enterprise teams, sector associations, public programmes, established accelerators and founder communities. Check fees, equity terms, mentor experience and portfolio outcomes before joining a programme.
Build a London-ready profile
Employers and co-founders need evidence: shipped products, measurable results, thoughtful technical decisions and clear communication. Make one strong case study easier to inspect than ten broad claims.
Protect the runway
London salaries, workspace and housing can consume capital quickly. Model a remote or hybrid start, professional fees, insurance, tax and the time needed to win the first repeatable revenue.
