UK coding bootcamps and Skills Bootcamps: how to compare them
A short course can create structure and momentum, but course length alone does not create job readiness. Compare curriculum, teaching, assessment and verified outcomes.

Know the programme type
Government-supported Skills Bootcamps and privately funded coding courses use different eligibility, funding and employer links. Confirm who pays, whether the learner owes anything, the delivery location and what interview or progression support is actually included.
Inspect the curriculum
Look for fundamentals, practical projects, version control, testing, debugging, accessibility, security and deployment—not only a long tool list. Ask how often material changes and whether learners receive individual code review.
Verify outcomes carefully
Request cohort size, completion, relevant employment outcomes, timing and methodology. “Hired by” logos may mean one former learner, and salary claims may exclude people who did not respond. Speak to recent graduates with backgrounds similar to yours.
Budget time beyond class
Intensive programmes can require full-time study plus project work. Part-time courses still compete with work and caring responsibilities. Plan hardware, travel and several months of portfolio building and job search after teaching ends.
Avoid pressure selling
Do not accept guaranteed-job claims without written terms. Read withdrawal, deferral, financing and refund conditions before paying. A reputable provider should explain prerequisites and who is unlikely to benefit as clearly as it explains success stories.
