Borough’s regular market is closed on Mondays.
Seven Dials’ visit page lists Monday and Tuesday opening at noon, while its FAQ says 11:00 and weekday street food from midday; confirm any earlier arrival. For a south-London alternative outside this top five, Mercato Metropolitano’s Elephant & Castle page lists Monday–Wednesday 12:00–23:00.
It is a different branch from Mayfair or Wood Wharf. These three official-page checks were made on 15 October 2026; no other shortlisted market’s hours have been refreshed.
1. Borough Market
Historic produce and prepared-food market.
LONNOW planning score 9.4/10. Best for the broadest first-time food day.
What to consider ordering: Arrive with two target traders and one flexible discovery; avoid trying to sample every stall. Get there: Tube/rail: London Bridge.
The market lists buses 17, 21, 35, 47, 133, 343 and 381 nearby; check current service and stops with TfL. Regular hours: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–17:00, Saturday 09:00–17:00, Sunday 10:00–16:00; closed Monday.
Market entry is free. Borough Market Kitchen is for street food; Three Crown Square is for larger produce merchants.
The market is on one public level, but cobbles, narrow passages and Saturday-afternoon crowds affect access. Accessible WCs are available during trading.

2. Maltby Street Market
Weekend railway-arch market.
LONNOW planning score 9.0/10. Best for a compact weekend food crawl.
What to consider ordering: Choose one savoury anchor, then share smaller bites; check the day’s trader list before travelling. Get there: Tube: Bermondsey or London Bridge.
Bus: 47, 188, 381 or C10, then walk to Ropewalk. Smaller and more linear than Borough, making it easier for a focused two-hour visit.

3. Broadway Market
Weekend street market.
LONNOW planning score 8.9/10. Best for food plus an east london walk.
What to consider ordering: Choose Saturday or Sunday and use the street as one part of a London Fields–Regent’s Canal route. Get there: Overground: London Fields.
TfL lists routes 236 and 394 at Broadway Market, with 26, 55 and 106 among nearby approaches. Route 48 has been withdrawn.
Check the actual stop and travel date in TfL Journey Planner. Best for combining food with independent shops and green space; crowding is part of the weekend trade-off.
The market’s own site lists Saturday 09:00–17:00 and Sunday 10:00–16:00. Hackney Council instead lists Sunday until 17:00, so confirm late-Sunday trading with the market rather than assuming the two sources agree.

4. Brixton Village
Covered market and restaurant cluster.
LONNOW planning score 8.8/10. Best for global cooking with weather cover.
What to consider ordering: Pick a cuisine and a backup in the same arcade; restaurants keep individual hours and booking rules. Get there: Tube/rail: Brixton.
TfL lists buses 2, 3, 35, 45, 59, 109, 133, 159, 196, 250 and 333 at nearby Brixton stops; choose the correct stop for your direction. Route 118 has been withdrawn.
Recheck the dated journey before travelling. A neighbourhood dining destination rather than one market menu, with strong evening usefulness.

5. Seven Dials Market
Indoor central food hall.
LONNOW planning score 8.6/10. Best for groups who cannot agree on one cuisine.
What to consider ordering: Review the current trader roster before arrival, then choose a shared meeting point inside. Get there: Tube: Covent Garden, Leicester Square or Tottenham Court Road.
Numerous West End bus routes nearby. The visit page lists Monday–Tuesday 12:00–22:00, Wednesday–Saturday 11:00–23:00 and Sunday 11:00–21:00.
The FAQ instead says 11:00 Monday–Tuesday and says weekday street food starts at midday: confirm an early arrival rather than treating the pages as identical. Mainly walk-in seating; cash-free.

Price the whole plan
A menu headline is not the final bill.
Check supplements, drinks, service charge, deposits, cancellation terms and travel. For markets, set a per-person tasting budget before arrival; for afternoon tea and tasting menus, compare the total experience rather than individual dish prices.
Dietary needs and accessibility
Contact the venue before booking about allergies, cross-contamination, halal preparation, vegan suitability and step-free access.
Never rely on a cuisine label, an old user review or a social-media caption for a safety-critical decision. Check TfL status on the day and keep a nearby alternative.
With children: settle the seating question first
A broad choice of food does not guarantee a high chair, buggy space or a shared table.
Borough warns of Saturday-afternoon crowds and mixed surfaces. Seven Dials’ FAQ lists a lift and wheelchair-accessible toilets, but families should still ask about their own seating and access needs.
Decide who finds a table, who orders and where everyone will regroup. Ask the actual trader about ingredients before paying; a whole market is not automatically halal or allergy-safe.
