Check the current eligibility rules
Use GOV.UK to confirm that the course, provider, study period and current Student or Tier 4 permission meet the route. The education provider must have reported successful completion before the application; receiving final marks informally may not be enough.
Apply from inside the UK
The Graduate route has location and timing requirements. Do not travel or allow current permission to expire based on an assumption that the university has reported completion. Check the immigration account, provider message and official application instructions together.
Understand what the route permits
The route can allow work, job search and self-employment subject to current conditions, but restrictions still apply. An employer may ask for a share code or other right-to-work evidence. Keep the digital status details accurate and never send a login credential to a recruiter.
Know the time limit
Graduate permission is granted for a defined period and is not normally extended as the same route. Build a career and immigration plan early: identify likely employers, roles and any future sponsored or talent route before the final months.
Budget for the full application
Check the current application fee and immigration health surcharge on GOV.UK. Include the possibility of delayed work, moving costs and professional advice where the case is complex. Never pay an agent who promises a guaranteed visa or job.
