Why London matters
London combines research universities, global technology offices, frontier-AI teams, founders, finance and major users in media, health and professional services. That density creates jobs and partnerships, but it does not make every company or course credible.
Where opportunity may grow
The clearest practical areas include AI engineering, assurance and safety, scientific discovery, robotics, healthcare, creative tools and business-process improvement. Valuable work often sits between domain knowledge and technology, not only in model research.
Skills to build
Strong routes include computer science, statistics, data engineering, product management, cyber security, design, law and sector expertise. Build evidence through assessed study and real projects; a collection of unverified prompt certificates is not a career portfolio.
Questions behind the optimism
Compute needs energy and capital; data use raises privacy and rights questions; automated decisions need evaluation and accountability. Follow implementation and regulator guidance rather than treating the action plan as proof that every proposal has been delivered.
