Auto Pay is not a parking permit: keep London’s driving charges separate

TfL’s Auto Pay concerns applicable road-user charges. It should not be treated as a general account that settles every cost or permission attached to driving in London.

Check what the account covers

Read TfL’s current description of Auto Pay and the vehicles registered to it.

A vehicle being familiar to a household does not prove that its details are correctly entered on a particular account.

Separate the other decisions

Parking, local restrictions and other operators’ charges have their own rules.

Do not assume that an automatic road-charge payment authorises a parking bay, creates an exemption or settles a penalty.

Review before the journey

Confirm the relevant scheme, vehicle and payment arrangements through TfL.

This guide does not check a registration number, amend an account or establish a personal exemption. Retain confirmations rather than relying on an old screenshot of an account.
