Blue Badge parking on red routes: read the bay, not just the badge

A Blue Badge does not make every London red-route stopping restriction disappear. The bay’s signs, operating hours and permitted use remain essential.

Identify the authority and the sign

TfL’s red-route guidance is distinct from a borough’s parking rules.

Read the particular bay: restrictions and permitted durations can vary by location and time. Do not turn one example into a universal three-hour permission.

Check before leaving the vehicle

Display requirements and any time limit matter alongside the badge itself.

A dropped kerb, loading area or unclear sign deserves a check before parking, not an assumption that the badge resolves it.

Use the current official guidance

This article does not assess a specific bay, challenge a penalty or establish an exemption for an individual vehicle.

Follow TfL’s page and the on-street signs, and seek clarification where the actual restriction is unclear.
