South Kensington: A Visitor’s Area Guide
Choose one museum, a meal and an optional second stop. Three major collections need not become one exhausting day.

Choose one museum, a meal and an optional second stop.
Three major collections need not become one exhausting day. Begin with the collection, historic interior or specific visit that matters to your group.
The details below separate ordinary hours from closures and free collection entry from paid extras. Pick one anchor, confirm its date and leave room around it; a neighbourhood works better as somewhere to spend time than as a set of distances to race between.

Source review needed. This planning check is older than seven London days or unavailable. Older event checks are excluded below; verify current details with the linked organisers.
Science Museum
Editorial suggestion: choose a theme and a booked arrival slot, not three museums in one day.
Normally 10:00–18:00, last entry 17:15. Opens 09:00 on 24–30 October 2026. Closed 11 November and 24–26 December; closes 17:00 on 26 November. Check individual gallery notices.
General admission is free; some experiences require a separate paid ticket.
Plan the visit ↗Natural History Museum
Editorial suggestion: choose dinosaurs or another priority, then one contrasting gallery rather than a complete-building checklist.
Daily 10:00–17:50, last entry 17:30. Closed 24–26 December. The recorded 9 October closure is past, not a warning for every later date.
Permanent galleries are free; paid exhibitions and events are separate.
Plan the visit ↗V&A South Kensington
Editorial suggestion: choose a material, period or collection rather than trying to see every room. Friday late opening does not include every gallery.
Normally daily 10:00–17:45; Friday until 22:00, though some galleries close at 17:45. Clearing begins 30 minutes before closing. Fashion Gallery is closed for redevelopment. On 29–30 October 2026 only the named exhibition, café and some ground-floor galleries are open; the rest is closed due to industrial action.
Permanent collection entry is free; temporary exhibitions can be ticketed.

A practical order for the day
Settle the arrival slot and access route before arranging a second paid visit.
If you need a step-free journey, check both the station and the building entrance; these are different parts of the day. Save the official arrival instructions, allow time for a break and keep the return journey in mind.
The nearby-food suggestions on the individual guides are starting points, not promises that a restaurant has a table.
Questions, answered
Are all local businesses checked here?
No. The dated checks cover the linked attractions and their published visitor information. Independent shops, cafés and local services have their own opening arrangements.
Should I book every stop?
Book the visit that needs it, then keep unbooked time around it. A free collection can still require or recommend a timed ticket.
Where can I compare more areas?
Use our neighbourhood guides and the London attractions hub rather than fitting several distant districts into one short afternoon.
