Open House Festival and London Design Festival both begin on Saturday 12 September and continue to 20 September. The Great River Race is the time-sensitive one-day event: first boats are scheduled to leave Millwall at 12:45 on Saturday. Treat these as three different planning systems—building access, distributed design listings and a moving river spectacle—not one giant list.
Plan A: architecture without the queue spiral
Choose one Open House listing that matters most, then add only nearby drop-ins. The official programme separates booking requirements, neighbourhoods and collections; read the individual listing before travelling. City Hall in the Royal Docks is a useful no-ticket family option on 12 and 13 September, but every additional building has its own conditions.
Plan B: the river in one place
The race moves from Millwall to Ham, so following it across London is inefficient. Pick one bridge or riverside section and arrive before the earliest estimated boats.
