Family change: Wonderlab closed 14–18 September
The Science Museum lists Wonderlab as closed from Monday 14 to Friday 18 September 2026. Do not book a family day on the assumption that the interactive gallery is available. The closure does not apply to the entire museum; check general admission and alternative galleries separately.
The useful change this week
Open House and London Design Festival both continue through Sunday 20 September. Their city-wide dates do not mean every participating building or installation is available every day. Begin with the exact listing for your chosen date, then build the rest of the outing around it. A festival label is a starting point for research, not an admission ticket.
Monday to Thursday: choose one anchor
For 14–17 September, pick either an architecture visit or a design stop as the main reason to travel. Confirm its daily hours and whether you need a timed booking. Add one nearby food stop and one optional walk rather than booking successive activities across opposite sides of London. This is an editorial planning method, not a claim that any particular building has weekday access.
Friday 18 September: a specific closure to avoid
The Design Museum’s official visitor information says the museum will be fully closed to the public on 18 September 2026. Do not use its usual Friday hours to plan that day. Move a museum visit to another confirmed opening date or select a different organiser-listed design activity. The closure concerns this museum; it does not mean London Design Festival is closed across the city.
Saturday and Sunday: architecture or design first
For 19–20 September, use the Open House programme’s map and neighbourhood choices to make a local shortlist. Separate drop-in opportunities from free activities that require booking. Keep a second option in the same area in case the first is full. Design visitors should similarly select from the LDF programme and check each participant’s access terms. Avoid treating free admission as a guarantee of immediate entry.
Make the plan fit your group
For children, choose the shortest confirmed visit that matches the published age guidance, then leave unbooked time for food and a break. For step-free travel, verify both the station route and the venue entrance; an accessible transport connection does not establish accessible access inside a building. In wet weather, prioritise one indoor anchor and make the outdoor extension optional. These are planning suggestions rather than venue-specific access promises.
A simple decision before you leave
Save the official listing, booking confirmation if needed, venue address and your return route. Recheck the organiser before departure and use TfL for the actual travel date.
