Best London job-search channels: which board should you use?
The fastest search is a deliberate mix of one broad official service, two sector channels and a short employer list—not dozens of alerts repeating the same role.

Build a three-channel search
Use Find a job for breadth, the relevant sector board for depth and selected employer career pages for direct alerts. Record applications so duplicate agencies and reposts do not waste time.
Public and regulated sectors
NHS Jobs, Civil Service Jobs, TfL, City Hall and policing routes state their own eligibility, checks and application process. Read the person specification and evidence every essential criterion.
Technology and creative work
Company lists, professional networks and events help discovery, but the employer’s career page controls the real vacancy. Check the company, contract, salary range and whether sponsorship is explicitly addressed.
Early career and retraining
Apprenticeships, Skills Bootcamps and London skills programmes can create a route into work. Compare entry rules, qualification, employer involvement and whether the programme promises an interview or only support.
Use a source hierarchy
Begin with the employer’s own careers page and the government Find a Job service, then use specialist boards to discover organisations and vocabulary. A copied advert can remain online after the original closes, omit the legal employer or change the location. Before applying, match the job title, reference number, closing date and employer domain. Never pay for an interview, equipment release, sponsorship certificate or background check through an individual recruiter.
Search with evidence, not volume
Create two or three role families and record the repeated skills, systems and outcomes employers request. Adapt the opening profile and evidence bullets to that pattern instead of sending the same CV to unrelated jobs. Track the original URL, deadline, contact, application version and result. Ten well-matched applications with clear evidence provide more useful feedback than one hundred untracked clicks.
Check London as a working pattern
A role labelled London may be office-based, hybrid, mobile across several sites or tied to a specific borough. Confirm the expected attendance, earliest start, late finish and travel reimbursement before treating salary as comparable. Add commute time and peak fare to the decision. For sponsored work, verify the employer and role route through official immigration information; a vacancy label alone does not establish eligibility.
