LONDON GUIDE

Kew or Walthamstow Wetlands? Two different green London days

Kew is a curated botanic-garden visit; Walthamstow Wetlands is a working reservoir landscape and nature reserve. Choose by the day you want, not a single “best park” ranking.

Choose Kew for the collections

Glasshouses and plant collections give Kew a structured focus.

Check the current admission, opening and any closures, then select a manageable part of the gardens. A paid visit is not improved simply by walking the greatest distance.

Choose the Wetlands for open water

The Wildlife Trust describes free general entry with autumn gate times, path restrictions and a working-water-site setting.

It is not a substitute for an indoor glasshouse visit in poor weather. Parking and access requirements need separate attention.

Compare the whole journey

Include the entrance, return route and available daylight, not only travel to the nearest station.

This comparison has not checked live tickets or inspected paths. Consult both operators’ current notices before committing to the day.
