GETTING AROUND

Heathrow to London

Choose the London station you actually need, not simply the train with the shortest advertised journey.

Choose the useful connection

Heathrow Express links Heathrow Central (Terminals 2 & 3) with Paddington.

The airport publishes a 15-minute rail leg and departures every 15 minutes. The Elizabeth line serves several central stations directly; the Piccadilly line is another option for all terminals.

Source review needed. This planning check is older than seven London days or unavailable. Older event checks are excluded below; verify current details with the linked organisers.

Payment and tickets

Heathrow Express accepts Oyster and compatible contactless payments, but its fares are separate from Underground fares.

Compare its actual ticket with the Elizabeth and Piccadilly options; a yellow reader does not make every train the same price.

The detail worth checking

Check the terminal first.

The Central–Paddington headline does not describe every terminal transfer, waiting time or the journey from Paddington to your accommodation.

Access and the last part

Ask for the access arrangements for your terminal, train and final station.

A fast rail leg is not a promise that an interchange works with your luggage or mobility needs.

Give the journey room to work

Use the address you are actually going to and allow for the parts that a headline journey time leaves out: walking to the platform, waiting, an interchange and the final street.

If you are returning for a flight, work backwards from the airline’s arrival and check-in requirements. A fastest rail leg is not a safe total transfer allowance.

Check once more before leaving

Read the operator’s dated service notice and save a route you could use if the first plan changes.

Check access arrangements and ticket conditions for your own group rather than assuming a rule for one adult also covers children, discounts or every connecting train. The official links below are the next step, not a claim of live seat availability.

Questions, answered

Is this a live service or ticket quote?

No. Source checked 23 October 2026. Use the linked official operator or TfL planner for your actual date, departure, fare and access arrangements.

Are these times local?

Yes. All stated times use Europe/London, including the seasonal clock change. Published rail legs do not include border control, baggage, waiting or onward travel.

Where should I plan the next connection?

Use the London transport hub, Oyster vs contactless and the airport overview to compare the complete journey, then check the exact operator.
