V&A visits on 29–30 October: check which sites are open

Planning a half-term museum day? The V&A’s London sites will not run normally on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October. Both East sites close; South Kensington and Young V&A have limited opening.

South Kensington: a smaller visit, not the usual museum day

The museum says Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art, the café and some ground-floor galleries will remain open.

The rest of South Kensington will be closed. That makes a difference if your plan was to wander through the collections or follow a display trail across several rooms.

Do not assume a specific gallery is included just because it is on the ground floor.

Young V&A: only the named exhibition and prebooked events

The Bethnal Green museum’s notice limits opening to Inside Aardman: Wallace & Gromit and Friends and prebooked half-term events.

This is not ordinary access to all the play and collection spaces. Equally, it is not a notice that every Young V&A activity is cancelled.

Check the exact booking you hold and the museum’s own update.

V&A East: both sites closed

V&A East Museum and V&A East Storehouse will be closed on 29 and 30 October.

The two buildings are separate destinations, but the closure applies to both. Do not swap one for the other as a fallback on either date.

If your plan includes an exhibition or a booked Storehouse visit, start with the museum’s notice rather than an old saved itinerary.

Already booked? Read the museum’s message

The V&A says it is contacting ticket holders for cancelled exhibitions or events directly.

Check the email address used for the booking, including its junk folder, and use official support if you need clarification. We have not checked an individual booking or live ticket availability.

Limited opening is not a promise that an exhibition ticket can still be bought.

Keep the half-term plan simple

Before choosing a replacement outing, decide which part of the day matters most: a particular exhibition, hands-on time for children or a general museum visit.

Our South Kensington guide and family pages can help with the alternatives. Check the chosen venue’s own date-specific admission conditions before travelling; another nearby museum has its own bookings and opening arrangements.
