London Underground 4G and 5G: where mobile coverage works
Mobile coverage now operates in stations and tunnels on sections of major Tube lines, with TfL aiming for network-wide coverage by the end of 2026.
Lines with current coverage
TfL says customers can use 4G and 5G in stations and tunnels on sections of the Circle, District, Central, Jubilee, Piccadilly, Bakerloo, Victoria and Northern lines, as well as across the Elizabeth line. Coverage is not yet continuous on every listed Tube line.
The Elizabeth line position
TfL states that all Elizabeth line stations have 4G and its tunnel sections have 4G and 5G. Surface reception and individual network performance can still vary, so a connected station does not guarantee identical speed at every point or on every device.
The end-of-2026 target
TfL and infrastructure partner Boldyn say work is continuing toward mobile coverage across the whole Tube network by the end of 2026. Installation focuses on remaining tunnelled sections and stations, with engineering carried out around the operational railway. Treat the target as a rollout plan, not proof that every current journey is connected.
What you need to connect
EE, Three, Vodafone and Virgin Media O2 participate in the network. A compatible device, active mobile service and relevant network settings are required. If a connected section does not work for you, TfL directs customers to their mobile provider for signal-quality or account support.
Do not depend on signal for safety
Download tickets, addresses, access instructions and alternative routes before travel when they matter. Mobile coverage can help with messages and journey updates, but batteries, congestion and local faults still exist. In an emergency, follow staff and station instructions rather than waiting for an app to refresh.

The rollout changes as new stations and tunnels go live. TfL’s mobile connectivity page is the appropriate checkpoint for current line sections and provider information. Recheck it before relying on underground coverage for a work call, meeting or time-sensitive connection.
